Pokemon Sword and Shield Funny Comic
Pokémon Sword & Shield introduced the Galar region to fans, who've loved it as soon as they were able to experience what it had to offer. It's based on the United Kingdom, and many of the region's elements will make even veteran players feel as if they were traveling across a new and exotic land.
Its dangerous Wild Areas and Raid Battles can instill fear in the minds of less experienced trainers, and its Gym Leaders are among the most competitive trainers of all, so players shouldn't get too confident in this region. But since challenges can be fun, and this is Pokémon, after all, let's just have some fun with some fan-comics about the Galar region!
Updated on November 9th, 2020 by Josh Davison: Pokémon Sword and Shield Isle of Armor and Crown Tundra are out in the wild for players to pick up and enjoy by now. While some speculate here and there that we may still get more expansions to this game in the future, it seems like we have all the Sword and Shield video game content we are going to get. As always, fan reactions, memes, and comics capture and immortalize their reception of Isle of Armor, Crown Tundra, and how they further fleshed out and shaped the Galar region. With that in mind, let's dive back into the Pokémon internetscape with another five Galar-themed Pokémon fan comics!
15 Kickin' Kitchen
While not specific to Isle of Armor or Crown Tundra, this comic is downright adorable and spotlights the loveable Scorbunny. Pokémon are part of every aspect of life in their world and are often used by chefs to help with their cuisine--so why not use the burning feet of a Scorbunny to help you toast subs in your sub shop? They're probably sanitary. This one comes to us from Twitter user @coughdrops.
14 Snake Ain't Scare
This one isn't specific to the expansions either, but it is nonetheless extremely cute. Sandaconda is a Ground-Type Pokémon from Sword and Shield that was also gifted a Gigantamax form. The leek next to this Sandaconda could be a reference to the proud weapon of the Farfetch'd or just the leeks the player can use to make cuisine while camping with their Pokémon. This art comes to us from Tumblr user laur-rants, and it's based upon a comic from william-snekspeare.
13 Power Of The Neutralizing Gas
This comic brings us a collision betweenPokémon Sword and Shield and Jojo's Bizarre Adventure. It is referencing the awakening of the Pillar Men in Jojo's Bizarre Adventure through a powerful combo that can be achieved when pairing Galarian Weezing with the Neutralizing Gas ability with Pokémon that have a largely detrimental ability, such as Regigias' Slow Start, Slaking's Truant, and Archeop's Defeatist. The Neutralizing Gas ability stops these other Pokémon's abilities from activating, thus making this trio even more powerful than they ever were before. This clever comic comes from Deviant Artist GAmesterAxela.
12 Stealing The Crown
One of the central figures of the Crown Tundra expansion is the King of the Bountiful Harvest, Calyrex. He is a legendary Psychic and Grass-Type Pokémon that can be paired with his steed to become either Ice or Ghost-Type instead of Grass. Inteleon, the final form of starter Sobble and the smooth criminal that he is, would naturally be enticed by the display of Calyrex's bold crown. Unfortunately, like most odd Pokémon accouterments, it's part of Calyrex's body, and Inteleon would have to just take the whole thing with him. This art came from u/Robbedob on Reddit.
11 The Origins Of Glarian Moltres
The Kanto Legendary Bird Pokémon Trio has returned in new Galarian forms with Crown Tundra. They've received new typing in addition to their new appearances, with Galarian Moltres having returned as a Dark and Flying-Type. Team Yell is the peculiar Galarian team that is more nuisance than genuine menace, and they are Marnie's biggest fans. They largely use Dark-Type Pokémon, so Moltres becoming a Dark-Type to join Team Yell and cheer on Marnie makes a weird amount of sense. This one also comes to us from Reddit user u/Robbedob.
10 Chill, Bea!
Bea is Stow-on-Side's Gym Leader in Pokémon Sword, and she loves martial arts a lot, so much so that she specializes in Fighting-type Pokémon. On top of that, she's been trained by her parents to become a successful martial artist and Pokémon trainer.
In Pokémon: Twilight Wings, Bea can be seen lifting rocks that are way heavier than she is, which clarifies how strong she really is and how much she trains. Sadly, her competitive attitude sometimes leads her to trouble, like that one time she tried to spar with a Machamp and ended up with a lesion on her arm. With all of that in mind, the above comic makes for some good-natured laughs at Bea's expense. This fan comic and other work by the artist, KukuruyoArt, can be found here.
9 They Don't Feel So Good
If there's something that Pokémon fans are not going to forget so easily, it is the fact that Game Freak decided to limit which Pokémon were going to be included in the games. This event is known as the Dexit, and yes, it was inspired by Brexit.
In their announcement, Game Freak explained that they had to do this due to the astounding amount of Pokémon that there are, and that it'd be too difficult to include them all. Dexit is perhaps the most infamous event to have happened in the Pokémon games. This comic discusses Dexit while making a clever MCU reference. The artist Muhammad Haiqal Bin Rosli's other art can be found online.
8 Galarian Zoroark You Say?
Some of the classic Pokémon that did enter the Galar region were shown to have new designs and typing, as they were a regional variation called "Galarian," similar to the redesigns that occurred in Alola. Many well-known Pokémon like Zigzagoon, Meowth, and Ponyta received new and interesting forms.
And since Pokémon that received Galarian forms avoided the Dexit, it's funny to think that some of those that didn't receive a new form would try to dress themselves to try to enter the Sword & Shield games. The full comic can be found here.
7 How Beautiful!
Before Grookey's evolutionary line was made to the public, many Pokémon fans spent a lot of time trying to figure out what the thing that this little leaf monkey had on its head was. If you take a look at what fans thought that Grookey's evolutions would look like, you'll see how they thought that its brown stick would end up being some kind of fighting staff.
But, it turns out that that thing was just a small drumstick, as Grookey's design is inspired by macaque monkeys since they drum objects to show dominance. Seeing Grookey's size one could think that he'd use that stick as a hair stick instead, as this comic shows. For similar art, follow @CharCharArt on Twitter.
6 Gross!
Sometimes, it's better not to think much about some Pokémon designs. You see, some Pokémon, like Sylveon, have appendages that are meant to resemble clothing or tools, and while it looks cute, it's totally weird to think that what looks like an accessory is actually a fleshy part of its body.
Scorbunny is another example of this, as these Pokémon have a patch on their noses that is meant to resemble a little band-aid, which is meant to give them a more rebellious look. While it's never stated if Scorbunny's band-aid thing is made of flesh, as speculated in this comic, if you take a look at its 3D model's feet and ears, you'll see that they have patches with the same "material." For more art like this, follow @_toshca on Twitter, but you will have to send a follow request!
5 Sobble
While some players loved Scorbunny and Grookey for their energetic and funny designs, others loved Sobble's shy and more delicate design. According to the Pokédex, Sobble's tears have the chemical power of 100 onions, and they use it to fend off attackers.
Although it's really mean to say mean things to a baby Pokémon like Sobble, it might be a good idea since Sobble's power come from its tears, just as long as you don't make them hate you and you let them enjoy their childhood a bit more! For more art like this, follow kelseywooley on Tumblr.
4 Run!
The Wild Areas are one of the most adrenaline-inducing parts of the Galar region, as they're filled with high-leveled Pokémon that can defeat any Pokémon team that's not prepared to deal with much stronger opponents.
But don't be afraid to explore them, as there are a lot of items that respawn daily, and players can find and enter raid battles. You can also hunt different rare Pokémon, which can vary according to the weather, and also interact with Watt traders. For more art like this, follow @Merryweatherey on Twitter.
3 Give Me That!
Zacian is Zamazenta's older sister and is the legendary mascot of Pokémon Sword. She's always seen in official art carrying a sword in her mouth, as in-game she's able to hold a Rusted Sword item that can make her change into a more powerful form.
This comic is inspired by a famous tweet, which had a video where a child could be seen running with a knife, and soon after a desperate woman running behind him to catch him. This can probably happen to any dog-Pokémon owner playing fetch too. Follow sadelionne on Instagram for more art.
2 Wait, Don't!
In the Galar region, trainers can enlarge their Pokémon using a technique known as Dynamaxing. This can be done only in Galar, as it's filled with a mysterious energy that empowers Pokémon so much that they can grow to gigantic proportions.
Wailord is the largest non-legendary Pokémon that exists, as they measure up to 14 ft. So it might not be a good idea to enlarge a Pokémon that's giant on its base form, besides, who would choose a huge whale to fight on dry land? The original artwork can be found here.
1 Scottish Gloria
Gloria is the official name of the female player character of Pokémon Sword & Shield. Ever since she was introduced to the Pokémon community, fans have been drawn comics depicting her with a Scottish accent.
This is mostly due to the Galar region being inspired by the United Kingdom, and Gloria using an outfit that resembles that of a Scottish girl. This comic is an example of these memes, and it also pays tribute to a scene from the movie Wreck-It Ralph 2. For more artwork, follow christinaisdrawing on Instagram.
